Learn to recognize asbestos hazards, understand the health risks and prevent accidental exposure in the workplace.

Asbestos may still be present in many buildings, industrial installations and construction materials throughout the United States. Although its use has been heavily restricted, employees working in maintenance, construction, demolition, utilities, facilities and technical services may still encounter asbestos-containing materials during their normal work activities.

The OSHA Asbestos Awareness Training – USA provides employees with practical knowledge about asbestos, its health effects and the precautions that should be taken when asbestos-containing or suspected asbestos-containing materials are encountered.

The training is primarily based on the asbestos requirements and awareness principles contained in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1001 and 29 CFR 1926.1101.

Online training and knowledge test

The course is completed entirely online and can be followed at the participant’s own pace. Each training sheet should be studied carefully. Asbestos is often a hidden hazard, and the consequences of exposure may not become apparent until many years later.

At the end of the course, participants complete a knowledge test to demonstrate their understanding of the subjects covered.

Certificate included

After successfully completing the training and final test, the participant receives a SafetyNet Certificate of Completion as evidence of completing the course.

The certificate can be retained as part of the employer’s training records.

Important scope of the training

This is an asbestos awareness course. It does not qualify a participant to remove, disturb, repair or otherwise perform regulated asbestos work where additional OSHA training, accreditation, medical surveillance, respiratory protection, hands-on instruction or other regulatory requirements apply.

Employers remain responsible for determining the level of training required for an employee’s actual work activities and exposure potential.
