Description

Understand the basics of dangerous goods transport by sea with this online IMDG Awareness Course in English.

The course introduces the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code and provides a foundation for employees who need to understand dangerous goods in the shipping process. Study two modules online, review the material at your own pace and complete a multiple-choice assessment.

Who is IMDG awareness training for?

This introductory course is intended for general shipping personnel, including office staff, administrators and customer support teams who need a working knowledge of dangerous goods transported by sea. It helps participants understand the framework and terminology used by colleagues involved in maritime shipments.

Choose training according to the work an employee performs. Awareness training is a foundation; employees with responsibilities such as packing, preparing shipments or other specialist activities may need further instruction specific to those functions.

What the two modules cover

Module 1: The maritime dangerous goods framework

Explore the International Maritime Organization (IMO), relevant conventions, and the legal and international framework surrounding dangerous goods transport by sea. This module introduces the context in which the IMDG Code is used.

Module 2: General provisions, classification and safety

Learn the basic terminology and general provisions, including dangerous goods classes, packing groups and safety. The module helps participants build the knowledge needed to understand discussions and instructions about dangerous goods in shipping operations.

Choosing training for U.S. shipping operations

If your organization handles U.S. and international shipments, consider both the activities involved and the transport modes used.
